KAITIAKI
As Te Āpiti Manawatū continues to evolve, kaitiaki are working together to balance conservation, recreation, education and access. Their goal is to ensure that the ecosystem is preserved, and that future generations can enjoy everything Te Āpiti has to offer.
Te Āpiti Community
Te Āpiti Manawatū is more than a destination – it’s a living landscape shaped by the people who care for it.
Protecting, preserving and enhancing this special place is a shared responsibility. Mana whenua, local landowners, volunteers, community groups, government agencies, local authorities and the Te Āpiti Manawatū Gorge Governance Group all play important roles in its stewardship.
As Te Āpiti Manawatū continues to evolve, these partnerships are helping to balance conservation, recreation, education and access, ensuring the area can be enjoyed by future generations.
Recent projects, including the 12km Te Ahu a Turanga highway and shared pathway demonstrate the scale of investment and collaboration taking place in the area. New tracks and trails are also being explored to further connect people with this remarkable landscape.
